These 3 Kendo DVDs were recorded in 1929, 1930 and 1940 in Japan. This is 74 minutes of real pleasure!
Japanese fencing or Kendo is now quite famous in the west. This set of three DVDs
were recorded in 1929, 1930 and 1940 prior to worldwar II. The Kendoka of today
will find these tapes very interesting as they show a way of fighting that is
not existing anymore today. These tapes allow us to go back in time in the 30s
and 40s where values were so different from what they are today. The films are
in black and white and were recorded during the master's tournament held each
year in the presence of the emperor. In this contest, the best fighters of Japan
were invited: Seiji Mochida, Sosuke Nakano, Kinnosuke Ogawa, Goro Saimure, Heitaro
Ueda, Sakae Watanabe etc.). Between the fights are included demonstrations of
Iaido, Battodo showing the old forms of the most famous schools of Japan. Some
fights are done with two Kendoka, one with one Shinai and the other with two
Shinai. These tapes are a testimony of how the Japanese practiced their art
at the beginning of the century, they give us a vision of the martial arts before
the war.

Goro Saimure, Heitaro Ueda, Sakae Watanabe etc.).
